Certified Translation for Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates and Diplomas

01 October 2026 Admin FastCert Translations

Birth certificates, marriage certificates and diplomas are the three documents we translate most often at FastCert. Whether you are applying for a UK visa, registering a marriage, enrolling at a university or starting a new job, these documents almost always need a certified English translation if they were issued in another language. Here is what you need to know for each one.

Birth Certificate Translation

When is it required?

  • Family, spouse and child visa applications (UKVI)
  • British citizenship and passport applications
  • Registering a marriage or civil partnership in the UK
  • Proving identity or parentage for legal and administrative purposes

What must be translated?

Everything on the document: names, dates, places, parents' details, registration numbers, stamps, seals, signatures and marginal notes. Marginal annotations (for example a later marriage or name change written in the margin) are frequently forgotten — and frequently the reason for rejection.

Marriage Certificate Translation

When is it required?

  • Spouse and partner visa applications
  • Changing your name on UK documents after marriage
  • Divorce or other family court proceedings in the UK
  • Pension, inheritance and banking procedures

Points to watch

Names must be spelled exactly as they appear in your passports. If transliteration from a non-Latin alphabet (Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese…) could create differences, tell us the spelling used in your passport when you order. If you were previously married, you may also need a translated divorce certificate.

Diploma and Transcript Translation

When is it required?

  • Applying to UK universities and postgraduate programmes
  • UK ENIC statements of comparability
  • Skilled Worker visas and job applications
  • GMC, NMC and other professional registrations

Points to watch

Always translate the transcript together with the diploma — admissions teams and employers need to see your modules and grades. Grades are translated exactly as they appear; they are not converted into the UK system. For more detail, read Do I Need a Certified Translation for My University Degree?

What Makes a Translation "Certified"?

For UK authorities, every certified translation must include:

  • A complete and accurate translation of the entire document
  • A signed statement from the translator confirming accuracy
  • The translator's full name, contact details and the date

Submit the certified translation together with a copy of the original document.

How Much Does It Cost and How Long Does It Take?

Birth certificates, marriage certificates and diplomas are usually one-page documents, which makes them among the most affordable to translate:

  • Standard (24–48 hours): from £28 per page
  • Express (same day): from £40 per page

Translating several documents for the same application? Send them together in one order. You will receive a digital certified PDF accepted by UKVI, universities and most UK organisations.

How to Order

  • 1. Scan or photograph every page, front and back
  • 2. Upload your documents via our quote form and tell us what they are for
  • 3. Receive your fixed price and confirm your order
